TL;DR
A skill is a written routine your AI assistant follows for one kind of Amazon ads task, and Xnurta MCP gives you official skills to install or a way to build your own from an SOP. This guide is for marketers and agency teams who already run Claude or ChatGPT on live Sponsored Ads data and want the team's routine written down once. The official skills cover reports, diagnosis, AI managed groups and campaign tools, and the ones you build can stay private or go to your whole organization.
A skill is a written routine the assistant follows for one kind of task: which data to look at, which steps to take, and what the finished answer looks like. The connector is the door. The skill is the SOP taped next to it.
Xnurta MCP connects Claude, ChatGPT and other MCP clients to your Xnurta data. That connection gives the assistant tools it can query. Skills answer a different question. Tools answer "what can the assistant query?" Skills answer "how should it query, analyze and present the result?"
Once a skill is installed, the assistant follows it whenever the scenario comes up. You stop re-explaining the task every Monday. Two people on your team who ask for last week's report get the same structure, not two inventions. What the assistant can reach does not change: that still comes from your own Xnurta login, and writes still need their own permission scope.
You describe the scenario, set the rules and define the output. Those are the three steps the assistant walks you through when you say you want to build a skill, and a decent SOP already contains all three. Most SOPs fail the same way, though. They live in a doc, and the doc lives in a folder, and the folder lives in someone's memory of a folder.
| Your SOP says | The skill step | Example |
|---|---|---|
| When this routine applies | Describe the scenario | Every Monday, for one client ad account, covering the last 7 days |
| What to check, and in what order | Set the rules | Compare against the prior 7 days, flag campaigns with spend and no orders, then list what people and AI changed |
| What done looks like | Define the output | One table, then three suggested actions in plain words |
If your SOP is a page of judgment calls, split it. Write the part that is the same every week as a skill and keep the judgment in the chat. A routine that only reads data cannot change your account, because queries never modify it.
You tell a skills-capable assistant you want to build a skill, then give it the three parts in plain words. It can test-run the skill on your real data and save it once you are satisfied. Treat that test run like a new hire's first report: check the window it pulled, the rules it applied and the shape of the answer, then fix what is off in the chat and run it again.
Prompt: turn an SOP into a skill
I want to build a Skill for my Xnurta MCP setup. Scenario: [when this routine runs and for which ad account, for example every Monday, last 7 days, ad account [account name]]. Rules: [your SOP steps in order, with thresholds, for example flag campaigns with ACOS above [X]% and spend above [Y] with no orders]. Output: [the format you want, for example one table with spend, sales and ACOS, then three suggested actions]. Test-run it on ad account [account name] and show me the result before you save anything. When I am happy, save it as private.
Good first candidates are the routines you already do on a schedule: a Monday review, a pre-Prime Day budget check, a quarterly business review outline. Start with one that only reads. Add a routine that changes campaigns later, once you trust how the assistant handles the first.
Xnurta ships official skills for reports and diagnosis, AI managed groups and campaign tools. For a routine outside that list, such as a Prime Day check or a quarterly review, you build your own.
| Skill | What it does |
|---|---|
| Weekly Ads Report | Week-over-week KPIs, 7-day trends, anomalies, AI and automation activity, top movers and next-week action suggestions |
| Monthly Ads Report | Month-over-month and year-over-year KPI baselines, ad-group-level structural share, product and keyword performance, goal attainment and new-product detection |
| Ads Structure Analysis | Spend and output by ad type (SP, SB, SD) and by manual versus auto, a check for structure imbalance, and ACOS and CPA trends by section |
| Product Diagnosis | ASIN and parent-ASIN ranking tiers, declining-product detection, variant comparison, ad eligibility and inventory checks, and related ad changes |
| Search Term Traffic Diagnosis | Part of the insights and reports group. Ask your assistant to describe it before you run it |
| Create AI Managed Group, Edit AI Managed Group, Delete AI Managed Group | Manage AI managed groups from the assistant. Needs write access. Deleting archives the group, which cannot be undone |
| Amazon Ads Performance Query Tool, Amazon Ads Configuration Query Tool, Amazon Ads Operation Log Query | Look up performance, settings and the operation log. Read only |
| Amazon SA Ads Edit Tool, Amazon SA Campaign Creation | Edit ads, and create Sponsored Products campaigns. Needs write access |
The campaign tools also include Promo Adjustment Reset. Ask your assistant to describe it before you run it. The install instructions live in the Xnurta MCP repository on GitHub.
You ask the assistant to install them, in a new chat, after the connector is in. Adding a connector never installs skills, so a connected assistant with no skills is normal, not broken. Connect Claude or ChatGPT to Xnurta MCP covers the connection itself.
Prompt: install the Xnurta skills
Please read this GitHub repository and follow the instructions to install the Xnurta Skills: https://github.com/Xnurta/Xnurta-MCP
Prompt: install one skill by name
I want the weekly ads report.
Name the skill you want and the assistant guides you through installing it. If it connects MCP but skips the skills, send the repository link again. After your CSM turns on write access, remove the connector and add it again (token users create a new token), then ask the assistant to update your Xnurta skills.
Yes. After you save a skill, you choose: keep it private, or publish it within your organization so teammates can install it. Your first draft can stay yours until it has survived a few real Mondays.
Sharing a skill shares the routine, not anyone's access. Each person still signs in with their own Xnurta login and sees only the ad accounts and permissions that login carries. An agency lead can write the Monday review once and have the whole team follow it, and Client reporting with MCP: from question to slide shows what that looks like for client reporting. For the full path from a written SOP to a first skill, read Write a Sponsored Ads SOP a new hire can follow.
Reading skills change nothing, and writing skills change your account only if write access is on for it. Writing comes in three kinds: managed group management, ad-entity editing and SP campaign creation. Each has its own permission scope, so a scope that edits ads does not necessarily create campaigns.
The access rule
Generally available from 27 Oct for Sponsored Ads. Write access is turned on per account by your CSM.
Four controls stay with you whichever skill is running:
If you connect with a token instead of the connector, you create it in Xnurta under MCP & Skill and choose its scope there. Read-only vs read-write MCP for Amazon advertisers explains which access to start with.
FAQ
No. The connector gives your assistant access to Xnurta, and skills are a separate install. Ask the assistant to follow the repository instructions in a new chat.
Yes. Tell a skills-capable assistant you want to build one, describe the scenario, set the rules and define the output. It can test-run the skill on your real data before you save it.
Yes. After you save it you can keep it private or publish it within your organization. Teammates who install it still see only the ad accounts their own Xnurta login allows.
Only the writing skills do, and only if write access is on for your account. Money, bids and archiving show a preview first and wait for your confirmation.
The official skills cover reports, diagnosis, AI managed groups and campaign tools. For a Prime Day check or a quarterly review, build your own skill from your SOP.
